This case study highlights a critical asbestos removal project at an international school. The school management wanted to ensure a safe environment by identifying and eliminating any asbestos present in the facility, in line with stringent international safety and environmental standards.
This project underscores the importance of proactive hazard identification, meticulous planning, and adherence to regulatory compliance in asbestos abatement.
- Services
◦ Asbestos Inspection & Survey
◦ Safe Removal & Disposal - Industry – Education
- Location – North India
- Impact – Successful removal of asbestos from plant rooms (will plant room be understandable by people?), ensuring a safe learning environment for students and staff.
The Challenges
Asbestos Presence in Critical Areas
While most of the building was free of asbestos, certain areas within the plant room contained asbestos in gaskets and thermal surfaces. Though stable at the time, it posed a future hazard.
Minimal Disruption
The project needed to be completed within a limited timeframe during vacation to ensure the school remained operational without risk to students or staff.
Strict Compliance Requirements
The asbestos removal had to adhere to US EPA guidelines and international safety regulations, with detailed documentation for regulatory compliance.
Our Approach
Comprehensive Planning & Scheduling:
A detailed survey was conducted to identify and mark all asbestos-containing materials. The project was strategically scheduled during school vacation to minimize disruptions.
Safety Protocols & Containment Measures:
- Isolation chambers and negative air machines were used to contain asbestos fibers.
- Workers were equipped with Tyvek suits and protective gear to prevent exposure.
- Strict containment zones were established, restricting access to controlled areas
Safe Removal & Disposal:
- Asbestos was carefully removed from gaskets and thermal surfaces under strict safety conditions.
- All hazardous materials were securely packed and transported to a regulated landfill for disposal.
Air Quality Testing & Clearance:
- Air samples were taken before, during, and after the removal process to ensure zero airborne asbestos fibers.
- Clearance certification was provided, confirming the site was safe for occupancy.
Project Outcome
The project successfully achieved the following
Safe & Complete Asbestos Removal
All asbestos-containing materials were successfully identified, removed, and disposed of, eliminating future health risks.
Zero Exposure & Worker Safety
The project maintained a 100% safety record, with no exposure incidents for workers or building residents.
Regulatory Compliance & Documentation
All processes were documented as per HDA Act & OSHA regulations, ensuring compliance and protecting the client from future liability.
Client Satisfaction & Future Commitment
The project was completed ahead of schedule, with the client expressing high satisfaction. They acknowledged our expertise and commitment to safety, making us a trusted partner for future remediation projects.
This case study demonstrates EPSCO’s ability to execute hazardous material remediation with precision, safety, and compliance, ensuring a safe environment for future generations.
